Blog Hop Question for AR: What do you do with your edits?

If the question is about the scenes you cut out of a story because the publisher wants you to then I definitely will place them in a document called Writing Ideas and place inside the folder that’s named for the story. If I am editing a story and feel the part I want to cut out doesn’t fit anymore, then I place it in the Writing Ideas folder. Of course paragraphs and whole scenes are always placed in the Ideas folder. Never know if they can be used later in the same story or in a new story. I don’t save words or phrases I cut unless they hold a particular idea that could turn into a story. Everything goes into the Writing Ideas folder for that story I’m editing. That way I keep all material in one place.

About lprobinson64

I have been writing short stories for 25 years and am now working on my first novel. Besides writing, I love to read a great variety of genres with crime/mystery/fantasy being at the top. Dean Koontz is my favorite author, but there are so many more I can't list them all. I also like to crochet, sew, and do many kinds of crafts. Being a retired school teacher sure helps me find the time for all my favorite activities. Can't understand why people don't like retirement. It is a good time to follow a new dream.

  1. Megan Johns says:

All ideas are potential seeds for stories. You never know when they might come in useful again

  2. I think I misunderstood the question. I have a totally different take on edits on my blog today. Oh well, variety is the spice of life. 🙂

  3. It’s so hard sometimes to cut out a scene! But I do have a tendency to ramble. So if I agree with the editor that something needs to be cut, I also save it to use later.

  4. nice to see you here. I too save cut scenes and chapters. Who knows when they may come in useful.

  5. I save them, and save them, and save them, and why am i answering that here instead of my blog for you all to go see? my blogger service is down.

I like that idea to save it in writing ideas. I have a file named Edits…kind of bland, eh?
